About The Trip

In partnership with Gathimba Edwards Foundation, we are excited to offer you a chance to be part of a team that will build homes and lay the foundations to a brighter future for kids in Kenya. 

Who: The first 10 people who sign up, will join us to build homes for families in need. 

Where: Iten, Kenya - East Africa

When: July 21st - August 3rd, 2018

*Cost: The cost of the trip (excluding international flights) will be $1,600 per person.  This includes all accommodation, meals, in-country transport, airport transfers and water. 

• This trip is offered at cost price so we kindly ask that everyone joining our adventure help us fund raise for the approximate $25,000 building material and land costs (Gathimba Edwards is fundraising the majority of these costs, but every bit helps). It would be fantastic if each participant could attempt to raise a minimum of $500 to help us cover these costs.  We can assist in setting up individual GoFundMe pages and are happy to provide ideas and suggestions for fundraising.  

Itinerary: The focus of the trip will be building the homes for families in need - but we've been sure to mix in adventure as well, making for an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience!

• Saturday 07/21/18: Arrive in Nairobi (book flights to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport - JKIA). Check into Triple O's Hotel. 
• Sunday 07/22/18: Travel by bus to JKIA, flight to Eldoret, then by road to Iten (45 min drive).  Check into Keelu Hotel.  
• Monday 07/23/18: Visit building site and meet the families whom we are building house for. 
• Tuesday 07/24 - Tuesday 07/31: Build houses.
• Wednesday 08/01/18: Officially open new houses, fly to Nairobi, check into Long View Hotel. 
• Thursday 08/02/18: Relax by pool at Long View Hotel.  Optional activities: Lake Naivasha Safari (additional cost of $120) or Giraffe Center (additional cost of $25).
• Friday 08/03/18: Activities to choose from: Mamba Village, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Bomas Traditional Tribal Village
• Optional Safari:  This safari will take place from August 4th - 6th and will cost an additional $700 – this includes accommodation, transport and meals.  If you are joining the safari adventure, return flight to your final (home) destination should be booked for after 10pm on August 6th 2018.  Safari itinerary as follows:
  • Saturday 08/04/18: Depart Long View Hotel 8am for 7 hour drive to Maasai Mara. Check into Mara Leisure Camp followed by an evening game drive. 
  • Sunday 08/05/18: Full day game drive and sunset viewing (sunset is weather dependent). 
  • Monday 08/06/18: Optional visit to Masai Village 8am (cost $20).  Depart camp 9am for 6-7 hour drive to Nairobi.  Arrive back at Long View Hotel for showering before heading to Jomo Kenyatta airport. Fly home after 10pm. 
• If you wish to arrive on the evening of Friday, the 20th of July, then we can arrange airport pick up and hotel accommodation for an additional charge. Please book return flight for after 10pm on Friday 3rd of August, unless you wish to attend an optional 3 days safari to the famous Masai Mara following the end of the home building trip. 

Register or Reserve Your Spot:  Click the "Register Now" button below to make payment securing your spot.  Please let us know via email (sanna@leesisters.org) if you wish to reserve your spot!  Due to limited hotel capacity and volunteer interest levels, we only have 10 spots available for the July 2018 trip.  If July does not suit you, send an email anyway, as we have other trips that may work better with your schedule. 

Corporate Sponsors: If participants know of companies or individuals that may be in a position to sponsor team t-shirts, lunches each day, tools, timber, windows, doors or any other individual aspect of the work please let us know.

• Required: apply for Kenyan visa here and make sure you have all the necessary vaccinations in time before you travel.  Do not hesitate to contact us with questions!

After your spot is reserved, you'll receive all the information you need to prepare for your trip: packing list, detailed itinerary, and more. You are responsible for booking your own travel. Individual booking information is below.
